Description | A foundation studio course exploring drawing with emphasis on descriptive, expressive and conceptual approaches. Students will learn to see and interpret a variety of subjects while using diverse materials and techniques which promote the appreciation of cultural expression. Course work will facilitate a dialogue in which students will engage in critical analysis and begin to develop their understanding of drawing as a discipline. | ||||||||

Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Apply art terminology as it specifically relates to works of art. Demonstrate knowledge of art elements and principles of design. Differentiate between the processes and materials used in the production of various works of art. Critically interpret and evaluate works of art. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of arts on culture. |

Knowing your Tools: Graphite as a drawing medium. Creating composition and framing Course outline Still Drawing Principles of Design: unity and variety, balance, emphasis and subordination, scale and proportion, and rhythm. Anatomy Drawing Visual elements, the vocabulary of art: line, direction and movement, shape and mass, light, color, texture and pattern, space, perspective, time and motion. Learning to critique Life Drawing Silhouette, Profiles, Lines, and Contours. Creating a unified body of work. Draw basic objects using the different render methods (cross hatching, shading, scribbles, Choosing a subject Drawing from photographs versus from life Light, Shadow, and Shading Structure and Shapes and Anatomy Practice makes perfect imperfections – learning to not erase Textures and patterns Perspective Volume and negative space Developing your own style what we have learned in class and how to continue growing as an artist. |
